Spring Assessments

I appreciate your investment in your child’s education and want to share information about an upcoming state and federally required assessment.  Federal law requires the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to administer certain assessments to applicable students who attend public schools in the state.

Students in grades 3-8 will be participating in the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment April 3-20, 2018. The assessments will cover English language arts and math. The PARCC assessment aligns to the Illinois Learning Standards and focuses on critical thinking, concept mastery, and writing skills. There are six or seven test units, depending on grade level. Students will have up to 110 minutes to complete each unit, though many will finish in much less time.

The PARCC assessments serve as an "educational GPS system," assessing students' current performance, and pointing the way to what students need to learn to be ready for the next grade level and, by high school graduation, for college and/or a career.

Students may take alternative assessments in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science if this accommodation is written in their individual education plan (IEP). In Illinois, this assessment, given to our most complex learners, is the Dynamic Learning Maps Alternate Assessment (DLM-AA).

You and your child are encouraged to take a look at the practice test to see how the test is aligned to classroom work and to see the types of reading, math, and writing questions your child will be answering. To see a practice test, visit http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests/.

Please encourage your child to do his or her best on all assessments. The results will inform of us our own areas of instructional strength as well as our system-wide opportunities for growth. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or principal. Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education!

Ronald McDonald Clinic

The Ronald McDonald Clinic is coming to back to D114. They will be at Lotus on Friday April 6th and Stanton on Monday April 9th. These clinics are free of charge to those who have Medicaid or no insurance. If your student is entering kindergarten or 6th grade or is trying out for a sport next school year, this is the perfect opportunity to fulfill those physical and immunization requirements. If you are interested in taking advantage of this great program, please visit our website www.d114.org or contact Mrs. Lanners, our district nurse, to obtain the necessary paperwork. Paperwork must be turned in no later than April 2nd and is required for your student to be seen.
