Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run

Girls in 3rd and 4th grade at Lotus School are enjoying their first year of Girls on the Run!  Girls on the Run’s mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. This program helps girls to make new friends, build their confidence, and celebrate all that makes them unique!   The lessons incorporate positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development.   Through the lessons, participants learn about themselves, teamwork, healthy relationships, and positively connecting with others to shape our world!  While these lessons are a huge part of Girls on the Run, so is running!  Each lesson incorporates physical activity and encourages participants to be active.  At the end of the 10-week program, the girls participate in a Girls on the Run 5k event.  Each Girl on the Run completes the event with a running buddy, an adult who encourages and keeps pace with their girl, ensuring her safety and sharing in her accomplishment of crossing that finish line!  Completing the event is a very proud and confident moment for a Girl on the Run!

We are so excited that Lotus has 27 participants for the first ever session of Girls on the Run at Lotus School! Thanks to our amazing coaches; Ms. McCormick, Mrs. Miller, Ms. Shaffer, Ms. Harmon, and Mrs. Martorano, we are able to have two teams of girls that meet Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00pm.  On November 19, 2016 the teams will be traveling with their running buddies to Grant Park in Chicago to participate in the Girls on the Run 5k event!  If you’re interested in joining in the 5k fun, visit gotrchicago.org.
