Ann Marie's Law:

Ann Marie’s Law was implemented into law in August of 2015 and was named after Orland, Illinois student Ann Marie Blaha. In June 2013, Ann Marie Blaha committed suicide after 2 classmates allegedly set up fake profiles on social media and persuaded her to commit suicide. The law requires schools to implement a suicide prevention and training policy in hopes that youth suicide rates decrease across the state. Fox Lake School District 114 supports Ann Marie’s Law and suicide prevention with yearly staff training on recognizing suicide warning signs and risk factors. Stanton School students are provided with yearly curriculum and education about suicide prevention. Mental Health Professionals are available to provide risk assessments and support with any mental health concerns.
